The city of Benaras witnessed the amalgamation of rich weaves and global connoisseurs. Confluence Foundation and Eastern UP Exporters Association jointly organized the 3 day event AAVARAN—HINDTEX at the Deendayal Hastkala Sankul in Varanasi between April 21—23, 2018. Chairperson of Confluence, Smita Srivastava had curated the event to promote Benaras weaves in collaboration with events partner ACE Hospitality.
On the inaugural day, in the presence of the ambassadors of ten countries, global players and textile exporters, the program was inaugurated by state minister. Diplomats and ambassadors from Embassy of Algeria, Republic of Mauritius, I.R of Iran, De La Republique De Madagascar, Royal Thai Embassy, De La Republique Togolaise,Tunisia,Venenzuela & Vietnam were present for the inaugural session. The Minister of State, Dr. Nilkanth Tiwari inaugurated the event on April 21. The Exporters Association shared the idea of setting up a common shopping center for handlooms and handicrafts in Asian countries. On this, the Minister of State said that the UPA will make the proposal, the state government will extend all possible help. The idea is appreciable, under which GI products will be sold under the same roof outside the country. The advantage of weavers and artisans will be directly available. Founder member of EUPEA Shri Ashok Gupta said that Banarasi textiles and crafts are being sold in the country and the world through big buyers of Delhi and Chennai. These people are also making huge profits, But weavers and craftsmen are still troubled. With the removal of these problems, Hindtex has been organized to make the weavers available to the market directly. In this, the stalls of the other, including 10 GI products of Banaras range, have been mounted for foreign buyers.
Amidst of the cheerful environment, the story telling session by the ghats by Jaskirat Kaur floored the international guests during the pre dinner gathering.
Both Confluence Chairperson Smita Shrivastav and EUPEA president Naveen Kapoor extended their vision and mission for the coming year before the gathering. Smita Shrivas— tav emphasized on the fact that Benaras weaves needs to be taken from local to global. She went on length discussing about various projects for the upliftment of weavers.to be exe— cuted via Confluence.
The fashion show AAVARAN inspired from the ghats of Benaras was showcased. Designers of international repute like Sanjana Jon who infused the spirit of Benaras before the global audience. The weavers who have crafted the textile also shared the dias with the best of the designers and models.
20 Models who are associated with the Lakme Fashion Week and Sabyasachi Couture walked the ramp on April 22. The idea was to fuse together the raw beauty of hand loom fabric with the ethereal magnanimity of the models. Benaras experienced the stalwart aura—one of its kind.
The valedictory session concluded with the excellence award ceremony where Smita Shri— vastav gave away the mementoes to the aspirants from various gamut. Brands include Da Milano, Times I nternet, Kapila graced the event with their representation. MD Da Milano Shivani Mallik unfolded her brand’s Zari collection with elan.
Among others Sandeep Marwah, Mahendra Singh Jadega, Amitabh Srivastava, Anu Vittal, Carol Hanlon, Pedro, Kanwar Jeet Singh Koch har ,HPMF chief Nitin Nagrale, Tania Castilho were also present during the event.
